Patients have many different reasons to travel to the Gold Coast for surgery.  They may choose, the Gold Coast, because of the reputation of our Doctor, Dr. Peter Widdowson here at The Lotus Institute, in Southport.

Also, a patient may have had a recommendation from family members or friends who have had surgery by one of our surgeons.

No matter what the reason, we travel with you on this journey.  The Lotus Institute team are here for your pre and post-operative appointments and answering your questions leading up to your surgery.

If you are unable to travel to your first consultation, we will arrange a phone /video consultation with your Doctor. However, all patients are required to receive at least one face-to-face consultation at least 7 days before the procedure. Once you have decided on a date for surgery, a face-to-face consultation will be necessary with your chosen surgeon. Your surgeon will decide at this consultation if you are ready to proceed to surgery.

One of our Team will assist you with your pre op paperwork and pre-operative photos and will assist you with any questions you may have leading up to your surgery.

In preparation for your consult, we do require that you send some photos through of the area/s of concern.  It may help that someone other than yourself take these photos.  The angles we require are front, both sides of the body, a ¾ view and a back view.

A referral from your GP is now required in order to provide medical information, regarding your procedure and outline any detailed medical history.  This referral may include a list of your medications and, previous information of any surgical procedures you may have had in the past.

We will also ask you to fill out a patient detail form and sign an informed financial return these to us.

Regarding weight loss surgery patients, we may require your present weight, height and BMI before a consultation is made as our surgeons will be able to determine if you are a good candidate for surgery for e.g. Bilateral Breast Reduction, Abdominoplasty, Brachioplasty, Thighplasty procedures.  Should any patients not meet the criteria, our surgeons will advise the best course of action towards achieving your goals and outcomes.

Your length of stay on the Gold Coast after your procedure will of course depend on the type of procedure/s and the individual’s healing process.  It is recommended you stay at least 7-10 days after your discharge from hospital for a procedure such as Breast Surgery.

For Facial surgery, Abdominoplasty, Thighplasty (Thigh lift), Brachioplasty (Arm Lift), these procedures require a 3-5 night stay and a minimum 10-14 days stay on the Gold Coast to ensure adequate healing time and for the opportunity for your surgeon to provide you with clearance before return home.

We have some recommendations for hotels or apartments for you to stay and highly recommend you have someone accompany you for support and transportation to and from your post operative appointments.

If you have no support with you, there are services available separate to The Lotus Institute , that we can recommend for you. These services are an additional cost to you, however there are some services offered should your procedure be medical in nature that may be covered by your Private Health Fund, dependant on your level of cover.

After any sedation or general anaesthetic, you will need assistance for travelling from the hospital to your accommodation and it is highly advisable you have someone stay with you overnight after your procedure. You will need a support person to accompany you to appointments within 24 to 48 hours post operatively to our rooms.

We do hope this may answer some of your questions regarding travelling to The Lotus Institute on the Gold Coast for your surgical needs.
