Dr Peter Widdowson

Plastic Surgeon MB, ChB (Otago), FRACS (Plastic)

Peter Widdowson has a background of 27 years in Plastic, Reconstructive & Cosmetic Surgery.    Qualifying in his specialty in 1982 he has been an internationally acclaimed microsurgeon and reconstructive surgeon for over 20 years.

Since commencing as Director at the Lotus Institute in 1999 he has super specialized in Cosmetic surgery, directing one of the most acclaimed Cosmetic Clinics in Australasia.    Peter specialises in most aspects of Cosmetic surgery including Facial Rejuvenation (face, brow, neck and eye lifts) – including the Lotus Institute’s MI.F.A.C.E. procedure – breast enlargement, uplift, reduction and reconstruction, rhinoplasty and otoplasty, body contouring – abdominoplasty, liposuction and body lift.

His qualifications include, Member of Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Plastic Surgeons (FRACS).  The Lotus Institute is one of Australia’s leading cosmetic surgeries.

We are conveniently located off the Gold Coast Motorway, just a few hundred metres from Australia Fair Shopping Centre at Southport.

Our facility is a fully accredited, state-of-the-art day surgery, plus there is a private hospital close by for those who wish to stay overnight.

All cosmetic surgery is performed by our qualified plastic surgeons with extensive experience in cosmetic procedures, assisted by a highly skilled team of friendly nursing and patient care staff.

Our service is discreet and our environment is totally relaxing. Some even say we’re more like a five star resort than a clinic. Herbal teas and fragrant oils are just two of the small touches we employ to set the tone. We treat everyone equally, yet individually. No two people are identical so the treatments and procedures we offer take into consideration our patients’ unique and varying needs.

It’s all part of the Lotus experience. The Lotus Institute is located at Southport on the Gold Coast, just 80km south of Brisbane in sunny Queensland.

The Gold Coast is world famous for its beaches, shopping, nightlife, theme parks and natural beauty. This makes it the perfect place to relax, rejuvenate, luxuriate and have some fun – on your own or with your family.

The warmth of the Queensland sun is also commonly noted for its healing properties. Here we enjoy an average of 245 days of fine weather each year with daytime temperatures above 22°C for 279 days a year.

The Gold Coast is also very easy to get to and navigate around. Interstate and overseas travelers can fly into Brisbane Airport (45 minutes away) or Coolangatta Airport (25 minutes away). There is also a major highway and bus service connecting the Gold Coast with the rest of the eastern seaboard.

Dr Drew Cronin

B.Biomed Sci, MBBS, FRACS (Plast)

Dr Drew Cronin

Dr Drew Cronin is a fully trained and certified Queensland Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. Originally from the Gold Coast, Dr Cronin undertook his postgraduate medical studies at Griffith University, where he was the inaugural Class President of the Griffith University Medical Society, helped establish the University’s ‘Hope4Health’ charitable arm, and graduated as a member of the ‘Golden Key’ for academic excellence. Dr Cronin completed his internship and residency at the Gold Coast Hospital, and spent three years in registrar positions in General Surgery, Ears, Nose and Throat Surgery and Plastic Surgery before successfully applying to the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training program in Brisbane.

Dr Cronin’s training involved rotations through the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Gold Coast University Hospital, Mater Brisbane Hospital and the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, where he underwent specialist training in complex skin cancer excision and reconstruction, Breast reconstruction, Head and Neck cancer excision and reconstruction, and Hand surgery.

Dr Cronin has as active interest in teaching, research, and health advocacy. He is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine, and in 2016 was winner of the prestigious Emmett Prize, awarded for most outstanding registrar research in Australia and New Zealand. Dr Cronin has presented research at National and International conferences in areas including Breast Reconstruction, Skin cancer, Hand Surgery, and Head and Neck Reconstruction. He is also on the Doctor’s advisory board for Avant, Australia’s largest MDO. He is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS), The Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the Royal Australian College of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).

Since obtaining his Fellowship, Dr Cronin has worked in both Public and Private Hospitals in Brisbane. He is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he performs Skin Cancer, Breast Surgery and Head and Neck Cancer Reconstruction. Privately, he has appointments as a VMO at Brisbane Private Hospital, The Mater Hospital, Westside Day Hospital, Samford Road Day Hospital and Spring Hill Day Hospital.

Outside of work, Dr Cronin enjoys spending time with his wife and their young family. They enjoy an active lifestyle, and love taking their daughter boating, fishing, and playing at the beach. As a previous representative at the Youth Olympics for Rowing, and a volunteer lifesaver with 10 year’s experience, Dr Cronin loves to get back in the boat, on the river or in the surf, when possible.

Nikki

Executive Assistant

Nikki is Dr. Widdowson’s Executive Assistant and office Administration Manager.

Nikki has personally acquired over 20 years of industry experience and knowledge, which she shares (and is forever updating) and making available to enable well-informed decisions. Nikki personally selects and mentors all Lotus staff for consistent service. This is what has made The Lotus Institute a great team today.

Nikki’s degree of commitment, care and attention leaves nothing more to be desired, at times going above and beyond to make sure each and every client of hers is well informed, important, feels safe and supported throughout their surgery experience.

Nikki is available to assist you, with your pre-and post-surgery requirements and bookings. As an excellent communicator and very experienced in managing clients and care providers she understands pre-surgery needs (and fears). Nikki can certainly relate to the feelings the client may be experiencing from nervousness, anxiety and uncertainty to excitement about the prospect of having something done that they have been thinking about for many years. With sincere empathy and care the client is quickly relaxed and comfortable to embark on a comfortable surgery experience.

With a kind and warm heart, strong family values, innate sense of confidence and a bubbly disposition and personality Nikki allows one to feel at ease from the moment they speak and connect with her.

Personal Assistant

Dallis is Dr. Cronin’s Personal Assistant and second in charge to Nikki.

With an administration background partnered with a high level of creative direction and overseeing The Lotus Institute’s marketing and having involvement in the IT department Dallis finds no task too big or too small to handle and is directing her energy into continuously developing and improving upon The Lotus Institute’s offering.

Preparing surgical quotations, surgery bookings, pre and postoperative surgery questions coupled with all the knowledge that Dallis has acquired over the past 8 years in the medical/Allied health industry she is able to ensure that you are well informed to make the right choice. She loves helping people to change their lives and seeing the joy at their “new selves”.

Dallis has a friendly relationship with the Surgeons, nurses and staff at our partnered hospitals and provides the utmost professional service to our valued customers. With her outstanding customer service Dallis is always ready and at your service to welcome you to The Lotus Institute.

Beatrice

Senior Registered Nurse

Beatrice is our senior registered nurse with 20 years experience and is in charge of the clinical division of The Lotus Institute. She is a trained operating room nurse and has a vast knowledge of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic operations performed by the Surgeons. This valuable expertise gives her a good insight into post operative management alongside mentoring all staff members.

With strong work ethics coupled with her passion, drive and sincere empathy and compassion for people has made many patients feel comfortable from the moment they make contact.

Gail

Registered Nurses

Beatrice, works alongside Registered Nurses: Cheryl and Gail; all are truly compassionate and true professionals in their endeavors to help our patients make a speedy recovery.

Nurse Gail has been with The Lotus Institute for over 30 years. Offering pre-surgery consultations and expert post-operative nursing care. Gail is a true professional and comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge within the industry

Nurse Cheryl comes to The Lotus Institute with a background in General Practice. Cheryl has a bubbly, warm personality and is compassionate and caring towards our patients both pre and post-operatively.

Our nursing staff’s commitment, care, and attention to our patient’s needs goes above and beyond to make sure each patient is well informed and feels safe and supported throughout their surgery experience.

Marie

Nursing – Injectables

Marie and Patricia are both Registered Nurses and are amongst the most experienced and highly trained injectors in aesthetic medicine in the country. Both have an eye for detail and strive to ensure that the patient leaves the clinic happy and with a natural-looking result. 

Aesthetics/Beauty

Brooke is our highly trained and experienced Paramedical Aesthetician and fully licensed IPL and Laser Technician as well as performing Advanced Skin Resurfacing and Scar treatments with micro needling.

Vickie has had over 30 years experience in beauty therapy and the beauty industry and joins us every Tuesday to offer our clients a range of medical grade skin treatments.

Rebecca

Marketing Executive

With a strong care and work ethic Rebecca is our Marketing Executive and comes with a myriad of experience and value to The Lotus Institute team.

With over 20 years’ experience in the Plastic Surgery industry, Rebecca has a background in International Business and extensive experience in operations and business development. Along with a strong and creative passion for marketing, social media, event co-ordination she is highly driven and motivated.

Having experienced cosmetic procedures herself enables Rebecca to immediately associate with the patients needs and wants.

Marie, Valerie, Dianne and Anneliese come to The Lotus Institute with customer service-based backgrounds, management in administration and many years of experience in the Allied Health and Medical Administration sectors.

Full of valuable knowledge, Valerie has been with The Lotus Institute for over 20 years and is our expert in our Synergie Skin care range. With her bubbly personality, friendly, warm, caring nature Valerie can’t wait to welcome you to The Lotus Institute.

Diane is our medical typist and brings many years of experience in Medical Terminology and also works in our accounts area to make sure clients receive their accounts on time once surgery procedures have been completed.

Marie is a whizz with her skills at the front desk. She welcomes everyone with a friendly smile. She has come to us with a wealth of experience in the medical admin areas and medical terminology with a background in radiology.

For over 9 years Anneliese brings to the Lotus Institute accounting and administration support and is a qualified Registered Tax Agent. Her accounting skills keep The Lotus Institute in balance.
